Langho FC Under 18 Girls

The Langho U18 girls team was the founder girls team at Langho FC starting in 2009 by the club’s chairman Mick Ellison. A few of the girls remain from those days before girls’ football grew in popularity. The team has evolved in year on year welcoming new players as it goes.

• To play in the U18 girls need to turn 16 or up to 18 in the current school year.

The team is a mixture of Year 11 and Year 12 girls, with no true U18 in 2018-19 season. They play in the West Lancs Girls Football League (WLGFL) which is considered to be the strongest league in the area. The team has played in this league for 3 seasons as U15, U16 and U18, and before that it played in the North Valley and Burnley league for 5 or more seasons.

The team won the league at U14 and at U15 has won the Barrowford tournament and was runners up in St Annes tournaments. They have reached 3 cup finals and have also won a fair play award; typical of the way and spirit with which they play the game. They reached the semi-final of the Lancashire FA Cup this season. This has all been achieved with an inviting completely inclusive approach to the team and squad. The girls are a credit to the club welcoming new players, whatever ability.

Steve Jenkins and Tony Cooper coach and manage Langho U18 girls and have done for 5 seasons. The team itself has girls from about 8 different schools and colleges now and they are a great bunch.

They are a joy to coach and watch grow in self-confidence and ability. The girls just get on as a group and embrace new players; whatever ability. The team has welcomed 4 new girls this season too. As coaches we aim to build girl’s self-confidence and enjoyment of the game. The team mates soon become friends. This team has always been built on the moto ‘ if they want to play, then they will play.’

There are also opportunities for girls once they turn 16 to train and play for the Open Age Langho Ladies team too. One of the Year 11 girls has played for both teams this season and has thoroughly enjoyed this experience too.
